The Italian Cultural Institute strives to promote the finest Italian cinema, while offering a taste of contemporary productions, exploring also less familiar paths. With this aim in mind, the Institute has created Italian Films Today, a monthly appointment dedicated to the most recent productions, offering to the Chicago public an occasion to reflect upon different aspects of Italian contemporary society. The screenings will begin on Tuesday, July 22nd, with the screening of APNEA, a movie by Roberto Dordit, which can be classified as a thriller, with film noir tones, and an emphasis on social commentary about the current reality in Italy . The story is set in Veneto, a rich and industrially developed region that offers work to many Italians and even more immigrants. Paolo is an ex-fencer and a sports journalist for a local newspaper. When his friend Franz dies under suspicious circumstances, he decides to investigate. He will unveil the awful truth about his friend, managing to break the silence that surrounds his death and to cast light on the real story of industrial development in Veneto. In Italian with English subtitles. Prior to the screening Giuliana Catalano will give a brief presentation of the movie. (DVD, 77 min.).
I hope you will be able to join us.
