FABRICA: DRINK WATER WITH LUCY ORTA

The well-known English artist Lucy Orta will be at Fabrica for a workshop entitled "Drink water".
The workshop - that is part of a larger project that will be presented at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice, during the Biennial of Visual Arts - will focus on the emergency behind the depletion of the most important of our natural resources, water.

During the workshop the participants will develop a series of objects, sculptures, public interventions and a large format publication to be presented in the exhibition and the public space. It will be a kind of collective forum for discussion and development of ideas to contribute to the production of the exhibition. Topics of research will include: water filtration and processing units, water transportation systems, pure water distribution schemes, bottling stations, aid kits, etc. Students will develop ideas based on their design competences.

Lucy Orta

Lucy Orta was born in Great Britain 1966. Her principal field of intervention is the personal space of the individual fighting for survival in adverse conditions. Over the last decade she has created an extensive body of work, which crosses the boundaries between traditional sculpture and intervention to create a highly original visual language. She encourages in an active participation from very diverse members of the community by organising workshop "Actions" and her projects both in the museum space and within the community question the role of art as a agent for participation and dialogue.

Her work has been exhibited in the major museums and galleries worldwide, among which: Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Pitti Immagine, Florence; Cartier Foundation for contemporary art, Paris; Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney; Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein; Venice Biennial of Visual Arts; Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; Johannesburg Biennial; Museum of Modern Art, Paris. Il terzo appuntamento di Wanted Creativity ha come protagonista un’ospite d'eccezione: dal 16 al 18 febbraio la nota artista inglese Lucy Orta sarà a Fabrica per un workshop/progetto speciale dal titolo "Drink water".

Il progetto"Drink water" - di cui il workshop di Fabrica costituisce uno dei momenti fondamentali - nasce dall'urgenza di denunciare la preoccupante e crescente mancanza della più importante e insostituibile risorsa naturale, l'acqua. Saranno ideati e prodotti una serie di oggetti, di sculture, di interventi in siti pubblici, insieme a una pubblicazione: il workshop sarà una sorta di forum collettivo per la discussione e lo sviluppo di idee attraverso mezzi di espressione differenti, i cui risultati saranno presentati nel giugno 2005 a Venezia durante la Biennale di Arti Visive.

I principali temi del lavoro di ricerca saranno: filtraggio dell'acqua e centro di elaborazione, sistemi di trasporto dell'acqua, schemi di distribuzione dell'acqua depurata, sezioni imbottigliamento, kit di assistenza, etc. Saranno coinvolti gli studenti di tutti i dipartimenti di Fabrica, che daranno il loro contributo allo sviluppo della ricerca secondo le loro competenze.

Lucy Orta

Lucy Orta è nata in Gran Bretagna nel 1966. Il suo principale campo di intervento è la lotta per la sopravvivenza dell'individuo in condizioni avverse.

Negli ultimi dieci anni ha creato una grande quantità di opere, a metà strada tra la scultura tradizionale e l'installazione, caratterizzate da un linguaggio visivo originale e personale. Attraverso l'organizzazione di una serie di workshop chiamati "Actions", Lucy Orta stimola la partecipazione attiva dei membri della comunità ai suoi progetti, nei quali mette in discussione il ruolo dell'arte come mezzo per creare partecipazione e dialogo.

Il suo lavoro è stato esposto nei maggiori musei e gallerie internazionali, tra cui: Victoria and Albert Museum, Londra; Pitti Immagine, Firenze; Fondation Cartier, Parigi; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein; Biennale di Venezia; Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; Johannesburg Biennial; Museum of Modern Art, Parigi.
