During the speech Stevens will talk about GTF approach to creativity while showing images of their recent works. "...There are several risks involved in the love of stuff, primarily that of fetishisation. By seeking out and emphasising unlikely processes, by enjoying recherché materials and by making a virtue out of technological flaws, GTF could be accused of creating an unnecessary mystique around what is quite ordinary. Equally, by revisiting technologies that were once commonplace, but are now less so (for example the engraved plastic signs from the Stealing Beauty exhibition) or materials that featured prominently in some of our childhoods (lenticulars) they could be charged with nostalgia. To some extent, I think that GTF could be found guilty on both counts, but to make complaints such as these would imply a complete disregard for the powerful emotions that people really do have about stuff. Uncouple nostalgia from conservatism and it no longer warrants its bad name."

Conferenza aperta al pubblico: 6 ottobre 2005 ore 18:00 Wanted Creativity Workshops e Lectures 2005 "Love of stuff" è il titolo della conferenza che Andy Stevens dello studio londinese Graphic Thought Facility terrà a Fabrica il prossimo 6 ottobre.

Tema centrale dell'incontro sarà l'approccio alla creatività, che per GTF consiste nella ricerca ed enfatizzazione di improbabili processi, in una divertita e divertente ricerca sui materiali e nel fare virtù dei difetti tecnologici. GTF trova una soluzione specifica ad ogni incarico, non esitando ad utilizzare materiali insoliti e non convenzionali o ad impiegare materiali convenzionali in modo insolito. Per questa ragione un marchio di distinzione del loro lavoro è la qualità tattile. GTF potrebbe essere accusato di creare una mistica non necessaria attorno a ciò che è comune. Allo stesso modo, rivisitando le vecchie tecnologie o materiali tipici dell'infanzia potrebbero essere accusati di nostalgia, ma le emozioni che la gente prova realmente per il mondo degli oggetti da loro utilizzati li scagionano da ogni accusa.

Graphic Thought Facility è uno studio grafico di consulenza, nato nel 1990, impegnato in una serie di progetti a livello nazionale e internazionale, per clienti del settore pubblico e privato. Le sue attività spaziano dalla grafica stampata e tridimensionale per l’editoria, il marketing e la stampa, a mostre, manifestazioni, product development e applicazioni di marchi. Dall’inizio della loro carriera si occupano anche a livello teorico del ruolo del processo nell’ambito della grafica nonché di questioni legate alla ricerca delle immagini e delle forme. Lo studio è di proprietà dei tre direttori: Paul Neale, Andy Stevens e Huw Morgan. L’équipe è attualmente composta da sei grafici e un responsabile dello studio. Graphic Thought Facility ha un’unica sede a Londra e le sue opere sono state esposte in sale prestigiose, come la Barbican Art Gallery, il Design Museum e il Royal College of Art, a Londra.
