Lisbona: DIALOGS Impossible conversations and plays
on perspective at Fabrica Features Lisbon.
From September 15 to October 30
2005, at the Fabrica Features space in Lisbon, Fabrica,
the Benetton Group’s communication research center, will
present Dialogs, a multimedia installation that analyzes
relationships and communication between people, using
different points of view. Dialogs, already presented at
the Kunstmuseum, Basel, in January 2005, will be one of
the “tangential” events of Experimentadesign 2005, the
international biennial on creativity and design culture
that will be held in Lisbon from September 15 to October
30 2005.

In keeping with the theme of this year’s biennial, The
Medium is the Matter, Dialogs represents a hypothetical
conversation between a man and a woman inside a museum.
The two people talk about the form and meaning of an abstract
painting, without understanding the motivations of the
other person and consequently reach a common feeling.
Each participant’s point of view is represented by a luminous
display composed of a series of interlocking, fragmented
panels that explode within the space dilating perspective.
To understand the two different points of view, visitors
must position themselves in a precise point in front of
the display, whose panels are composed of consecutive
letters and therefore words and phrases that express the
opinion of the character. Every display is also connected
to an audio system that exaggerates the characteristics
of distortion and incomprehension of the dialog between
the couple. Dialogs is a project created by Francesco
Meneghini, in collaboration with Swiss audio designer
Ramon De Marco and Portuguese designer Pedro Ferreira,
both of whom have been Fabrica researchers. The text of
the conversation between the two characters is by Leonora
Sartori from Fabrica’s creative writing department. Fabrica
Features is a meeting place, part of a network that begins
in Treviso – where Fabrica is situated – and crosses the
globe. It acts as a medium for a culture made no longer
and not only of books, but also of meetings, glances,
traditions and feelings. Fabrica Features is a multiethnic,
multimedia and multifunctional space where concerts, video
projections, artists’ performances, conferences, personal
exhibitions and workshops, become important opportunities
for meeting and exchange. DIALOGS September 15– October
